Simmesport Christmas Parade
Ms. Carolyn Barr-Alexander has been chosen as Grand Marshal for the Christmas parade. Over the years Ms. Carolyn has made many contributions to the Town of Simmesport and its people. A Simmesport native who resides in Houston, Ms. Carolyn has continually supported the Adult Education program and has hosted many, many people in her home who sought medical treatment in Houston. Ms. Carolyn still works as a nurse in Houston and somehow manages to keep up with all the happenings and events in Simmesport.
Following the parade, Ms Carolyn will throw the switch to light the Christmas tree in Leo Ehrhardt Central park. RISE, the non-profit organization dedicated to economic development and social enrichment in Simmesport, will be selling gumbo and sweets at the park. After the tree is lit, we will ask that anyone who would like to place an ornament on the tree in memory of past loved ones or to honor current family and friends. All we ask is that the ornaments be made of plastic (please no glass or ceramic) and please to not place photos on the tree. There will be several choirs present to sing in the holiday season.
The Annual Simmesport Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018. The parade will begin at 4 PM. Anyone who wants to enter a float in the parade can download the application below. No one will be allowed in the parade without filling out an application and turning it in by November 23. Please turn in all parade application to the Simmesport Town Hall or e-mail them to email@example.com.

Lighting of the Tree
A ceremony for the lighting of the tree will be held in Leo Ehrhadrt Central Park on Mission Drive. The non-profit organization R.I.S.E. will be selling hot gumbo and sweets for all those who come out. Local choirs will be performing for the tree lighting. After the tree is lit by the Grand Martial, people will be asked to come to the tree and place an ornament. This ornament can be in memory of a loved one, for world peace or just to make the tree look better. We would only ask that you don’t put photos on the tree, only plastic ornaments (no glass please) and nothing too large for the tree to support. RISE will be selling ornaments at the ceremony. We look forward to everyone coming out and celebrating the holiday season with us.
